CONGRATULATIONS TO JAZZ FACTORY!
From Mr. Hairston - It is with great honor, excitement, joy...all of the above, that I announce that the Jazz Factory has been selected to perform at the 69th Midwest Band Clinic. It is the highest achievement in the nation to be invited to this conference! Many educators have applied for over 20 years and have not been invited. Lamar Jazz Factory has taken a spot! The 69th Annual Midwest Clinic will be held from December 16-19, 2015 at McCormick Place West in Chicago, Illinois.
NJHS TO PARTICIPATE IN RELAY FOR LIFE
Next Saturday, April 18, the Lamar NJHS will be once again participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The students are hard at work raising money on their own, but we would welcome your support as well!
You can click on the link below, then click "donate". You can donate to an individual participant or to our team - Lamar MS NJHS. Any donation - large or small - helps in the fight against cancer.
Please consider donating. THANKS!
SAVE TEXAS SCHOOLS RALLY
State Capitol South Steps
Saturday, April 18, 2015
10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
Texas schools and students continue to struggle with the challenges of underfunding and over-testing. Our children deserve better. Join thousands of fellow Texans at the Capitol on April 18 to tell our leaders: THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!
Texas students should not be left standing at the courtroom door waiting for their future. We need fair funding, testing reform and Community Schools today!
The rally is family-friendly. Please urge all students, teachers, neighbors, co-workers and faith groups to join you on April 18 to speak out for our next generation.

GET INFORMED ABOUT PUBLIC SCHOOL LEGISLATION
Did you know that even though nearly 62% of AISD students are economically disadvantaged, our district is labeled as Chapter 41 (property rich) and we gave over $128 million to the state in recapture in the 2013-14 school year? This year the estimate is $135 million! The district that gives the second most is Highland Park in the Dallas area and has no economically disadvantaged students. Chapter 41 districts do not receive a transportation allotment, so we transport 22,000 students daily without any money to help with this task. We also uniquely give to social security, 27% of our students are English language learners, and 56% of AISD students are labeled as "at risk."
Something needs to be done to secure more funds for our district, so please reach out to your legislators! For details and pdfs that can be printed out and distributed go to the AISD website's legislative page: http://www.austinisd.org/legislature.

DONATE TO THE SCOTTIE STORE
Start your spring cleaning now and bring all those gently used items to the Scottie store. We need your donations! Clean out those closets and drawers. We could use iTunes cards ($10 increments), stuffed animals, mechanical pencils, highlighters, movies, headphones just to name a few. Donations can be left in the library.
