Lamar Campus Advisory Council (CAC) Parent Membership Openings - a few new parent members and one business member for the 2014-15 school year.

The Lamar CAC is currently seeking new parent members for the 2014-2015 school year. The CAC consists of both parent members and staff members.

Each school in the district is required in by the Texas Education Code, to establish and maintain a campus-level advisory council. A CAC is an advisory body providing guidance and counsel and such other assistance as specifically listed in state law and district policy to the Principal. Parents, the Community Representative, and the Business Representative are all selected by the Membership Selection Committee. All representatives serve a two year term which may be extended depending upon the membership needs at that time. Members are required to attend monthly meetings. Lamar’s meetings run 5-6pm on campus usually on Mondays, a calendar of meeting times for the 2014-2015 school year will be set in August. The CAC calendar year runs from May - April. An application is required and the submittal of an application does not in itself guarantee a position.

Lamar’s CAC parent representative membership criteria includes a selection of members from our standard feeder schools; including academy parents and non-academy parents. We try to rotate half of our membership each year, so that one half of our members are new to the committee while the other half is returning.

Our current specific membership wish list include incoming parent representatives from Reilly Elementary and Ridgetop Elementary, however, there is the possibility of adding another Highland Park, Brentwood, or Gullett parent. We also have an opening for a Business Representative. The business representative must be able to speak on behalf of a business. Businesses do not include public sector agencies, but may include non-profit or not-for-profit entities. The Lamar CAC prefers that this person be a parent of a current Lamar student. Parent nor business representatives may be an employee of AISD.

Member selection will occur at our April CAC Meeting, currently set for Monday, April 14, 5pm-6pm. New members will be required to attend the following meeting, Monday, May 12, 5pm-6pm.

If you are interested in joining CAC, please contact Karen Moore, parent co-chair by email or call 512-773-7355 as soon as possible.

Additional information regarding Campus Advisory Councils as well as member applications may be found online.

Our State Championship Winter Guard needs your help and support. We are selling discount cards for $10. The cards are valid for 1 full year! Thanks so much for your support.
