Attention parents of current 6th grade students:
Greater than 65% of our current 6th graders are not up to date with the vaccines they will need to enter 7th grade!  Did you know that your 6th grader needs 3 more shots as they enter the 7th grade? They are as follows:
• Tdap: 1 dose within the last 5 yrs
• Varicella: 2 total doses needed
• Meningococcal (MCV): 1 dose

• Human Papillomavirus (HVP)

Has your child already received these vaccines? If so, please send a copy of their immunization record to the health office so we can mark them off our list. A copy of the record may also be faxed to: 467-6862 or emailed to: katie.faehl@austinisd.org. If your child has not had these vaccines and you would like help obtaining them, please call the health office.

I have been asked to help disseminate information on the Million Mile Month. The Million Mile Month (MMM) is a one month challenge that encourages Texans to come together as one virtual community w/a goal of walking, running, or riding (on bikes) one million miles. This is a project of the Austin Public Library and Million Mile Month. Austin Public Library (APL) will be hosting several events during the month and you can access the library’s website http://library.austintexas.gov/event/million-mile-month-54589 for dates and times of special events. MMM will be celebrated at Recycled Reads, 5335 Burnet Road, on Sunday, April 27th at noon-2:00 p.m. APD will be there for on-site bike registrations. You can win prizes from a shoe piñata and get your own pair of plarn (?) shoelaces. You can fill out cards for trips walked or biked to library locations or inside the bookstore (20 laps inside Recycled Reads=1 mile). Anyone wanting more information email Ruth Jiu @austintexas.gov.

Treat yourself to some Whataburger and raise money too! Eat dinner (in restaurant or drive-thru) from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Whataburger, 6205 North Lamar Blvd. 20% of all profits will benefit the McCallum High School 2014 GradKnight celebration.
Please forward this message to all students, faculty, staff, parents, families, friends and neighbors. Friends don’t let friends go to Whataburger alone.

The Lamar Orchestra will hold a FUNraiser @ the Triangle Galaxy Cafe on April 22nd to help raise funds for our year end trip to San Antonio. All you have to do is eat dinner at the restaurant, put your paid receipt in the donation jar, and Galaxy Cafe will generously donate a percentage of the receipts to the Lamar Orchestra! Join us for good food and listen to some great music by the Lamar Orchestra kids.  Don’t have time to hang out? Order food to go and put your receipt in the jar!

Event Details:
Date: April 22, 2014
Location: Galaxy Cafe in The Triangle (4616 Triangle Ave)
